598483 Water Pump Rebuild Assessment Charge 2.6 6 Cylinder Series 2a 3
New water pumps for the 2.6 litre 6 cylinder Land Rover Series 2a or Series 3 engine are unobtainable. Rebuild kits are also unobtainable, so rebuilding these pumps involves, among other bespoke touches, modifying a new impeller for a 2.25 litre 4 cylinder Series engine on a lathe. This must be done precisely for optimal clearance between the impeller and the pump housing. Getting it right is tricky.
We can rebuild a 2.6 water pump for you.
Here's the process
First, you pay the assessment charge here and send us your 2.6 water pump. When it arrives at our workshop, we'll assess the cast iron housing. If the housing looks OK we'll try to press out the impeller. Even with penetrating fluid, heat, care, and patience, it's not always possible to remove the impeller without cracking the housing. We'll let you know how we go. The assessment charge is an upfront payment for us to establish whether or not your 2.6 water pump can be rebuilt. It's not refundable and doesn't cover any rebuild work, just the assessment.
The assessment charge is $99. You pay that here by proceeding to checkout.
If it can be rebuilt, then we'll go ahead and rebuild it. Unless you want us to preserve the patina, we'll blast, prime and paint the housing in a colour of your choice (the period-correct Duck Egg Blue is an option). On completion, we'll send you photos of the rebuilt pump and email you a payment link. When that payment comes through we'll post the pump back to you.
The rebuild charge is $770 plus postage. If it turns out your pump can't be rebuilt, we might be able to supply a rebuildable pump for an additional $330 and rebuild that pump for you. This will depend on availability: these pumps are getting hard to find, and only some of the ones we can source turn out to be rebuildable.
If you have a spare one, please let us know.
There are two 2.6 radiator fan types (standard and viscous) and the fan mounting arrangement on the pump differs accordingly. We can rebuild both pump variants.
