ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
An independent Series Land Rover workshop in Melbourne
We service, repair and restore Series 1, 2, 2a and 3 Land Rovers — and nothing else.
Established 2021.
Welcome to the Series Magic workshop, Melbourne.THE WORKSHOPWho we are, what we do
Series Magic is a Series Land Rover specialist workshop in Melbourne, Australia.
Whether you’re new to Series, a long-term custodian or you’ve just inherited the family heirloom, we’re here to help you get your Series back on the road or keep it on the road—or off-road, if that's where you take it.
We understand the joys, frustrations and pitfalls of Series ownership.
We offer a wide range of workshop-based services for Series, and what we can’t do in our workshop we outsource to other specialists we trust.
Marce Cameron, Series Magic founder and Series enthusiast.RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENTSeries Magic R&D
Given the deteriorated state of many Series that come into our workshop, and the fact that many Genuine parts are unobtainable and most aftermarket parts are a pale imitation, we’ve had to come up with workshop-based solutions to recurring technical challenges.
Over years of working exclusively on Series, we’ve developed a growing range of Series-specific workshop procedures, specialist tools and practical solutions.
We’ve come to know the Series quirks, faults and failure modes, and how to get the best out of them without turning them into something they're not.
Workshop-developed EQUIPMENT, Series Magic.RestorationsPatina restorations
We are increasingly focused on maintaining and restoring Series in a way that preserves the history, character and charm embodied in such things as faded, mottled paintwork—‘patina’—and minor panel imperfections.
So we offer ‘patina restorations’ rather than glossy or concours restorations.

Given our preservation ethos, we do offer modifications and upgrades, but not drastic ones.
Our upgrades often involve installing something from a later Series model into an earlier one, but are not limited to this. For example, we can performance tune Series engines.
We don’t do power steering or disc brake conversions, or replace leaf springs with coil springs. We won’t put a V8 engine into a Series 1.

We work methodically and with care, aiming to do the job properly rather than rushing it out of the workshop.
We set an uncompromisingly high workshop standard for work on safety-critical systems (brakes, steering, suspension, structural repairs, and high-current electrical circuits): we either do it properly or we don’t touch it.
Quality control, job documentation and standardised workshop procedures are an important part of how we work.

We insist on fitting only high-quality replacement parts where it matters most: safety-critical and reliability-critical systems and assemblies.
Elsewhere on a Series, we may fit less-costly replacement parts—if obtainable—at the customer’s request, provided they still meet our minimum workshop standards.
Land Rover original parts.Transparency and accountabilityWe keep you informed
Series are relatively simple vehicles, but working on them can be anything but straightforward.
Age, rust, benign neglect and dubious or dodgy repairs can make it difficult to know what’s involved at the outset: we often find more things that need doing as the work proceeds. Unforeseeable complications are the rule rather than the exception.
Given this, we often insist on a stand-alone vehicle inspection before we put a spanner to your Series, so that we—and you—get some idea of its overall condition.
Complex and costly repair work is always documented, for our own records and yours.
Documentation files may include references to complications encountered, and we often upload photos and videos.
For transparency and accountability, our invoices are more detailed than those of non-specialist automotive workshops.
The character of a 1966 SeriES conceals unforseeable surprises.FREQUENTLY ASKEDQuestions we often hear
-
We only work on Series Land Rovers, the classic Land Rovers made from 1948 to 1985. What distinguishes all Series models from all the other Land Rovers, and Range Rovers, is the suspension: Series have leaf springs rather than coil springs.
-
Our workshop is in the Heidelberg West industrial estate in north eastern Melbourne, near La Trobe University. We offer our workshop-based services Australia-wide, and to overseas customers via our Shop. If you can get it to us, we can work on it.
-
We work either on an estimate, a quote, or our hourly rate — depending on the job. Our workshop hourly rate is $210 plus GST. View our Cost page to learn more.
-
Yes, we buy New Old Stock Series parts, as long as they’re withstood the ravages of time and storage. We also buy selected good condition used parts.
-
We’re a small and busy workshop without office staff, so visits are strictly by appointment.
-
Check out our Shop. If it’s listed there, and we say it’s in stock, then you can purchase it via the Shop. If you can’t find it in our Shop, or if it’s not in stock, we can’t help you.
We’re a small specialist workshop that sells a limited range of Series and other Land Rover parts that are surplus to our needs—we’re not a supplier of generic Series parts.
